1998 Major: History and Economics

How has being a History graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"The overall liberal arts education is important in becoming a well rounded citizen, and the History I learned at Duke was a critical part of a well rounded education, especially as you see what is happening in the world today. Repeating the famous quote: "‘Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it' makes me think our students need to understand what has happened in the past, as that often tells us how to impact the future."

What advice would you give students in Duke's History programs?

"Take a well-rounded approach to the classes you select, in both History as well as other departments. Do not focus solely on your major, as there is more to learn about life that just what you are training to be in your career."
