American Sexualities

HISTORY373

American Sexualities. CCI, CZ, EI, SS This interdisciplinary course analyzes the construction of sexualities in the Americas, presenting the ways that individuals and institutions have created sexualities in a transnational frame in Latin and North America from the late fifteenth century through the present. Interactions across genders and cultural, ethnic, racial, and national boundaries have driven the historical creation and re-creation of sexual ideologies, behaviors, and imaginations. American Sexualities analyzes a wide variety of ideas related to sex, focusing not just on marriage and mainstream sexualities, but also on the definitions of sexual acts that fall far outside the supposed norms of modern Western society. One course.
