Women, Gender, and Black Power

The Black Power Movement shaped how we think about American society and race relations, but it also affected gender equality and feminism? This course examines the Black Power Movement and its legacy through the experiences of African American women activists. It will familiarize students with the major historical figures and events of the movement and examine how femininity, masculinity, and sexuality shaped and were shaped by the movement.
