Ashley Rose Young Curates Photography Exhibit on Street Food Culture

Ashley Rose Young curated To Market, to Market! Urban Street Food Culture Around the Globe, a photography exhibit that explores street foods, food markets, and the people who provision urban communities across the globe with fresh and prepared foods.

Young captured these images (24 in total) while conducting archival research and fieldwork for her dissertation on Atlantic World food cultures.

The exhibit seeks to capture food vendors' entrepreneurial spirit and efforts to advance their local businesses in an increasingly industrialized global food system. It celebrates the vibrancy of urban food cultures and their ability to endure in an era of seeming cultural homogeneity.

The exhibit runs through February 28, 2017 on the Student Wall on the first floor of Perkins Library.
