Ashton Merck, a second-year doctoral student in history, has won a graduate award affiliated with the Nannerl O. Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professorship for her work in the history of health and safety regulation and her involvement in inter-institutional and interdisciplinary collaborations. In 2016 the professorship is held by Professor Susan Lederer, a historian of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The award was presented to one student from Duke and one student from UNC-Chapel Hill who “has made significant contributions to the area of work represented by Professor Lederer or has been engaged in collaborations related to this area of work that help to enhance the intellectual life of both Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill.”
