Georgia Welch is a historian of the modern United States, specializing in social movements, state formation, and political economy. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Duke University. As a Bacca Fellow for the Duke Language, Arts + Media Program, she is integrating digital projects into her courses to help students visualize chronology and historical change. Her book manuscript, Right of Way: The Competition for Economic Opportunity in the 1970s, examines how new equal employment opportunity measures for women, minorities, indigenous people, and local residents transformed racial and gender formations during construction of the Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline. Her work has appeared in Feminist Formations. Her research has received support from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the National Museum of American History, the Program in Women's Studies at Duke, and the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke.
