Our Thematic Concentrations Allow Students to Think about Contemporary Issues from Historical Perspectives

African Diaspora: Investigates the history of African-descended peoples to recast our understanding of historical issues in the Americas, Europe, and other parts of the globe.

Economic and Business Cultures: Examines ideas about economic relations as well as the actual practices of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.

Emotions and Psychology of the Self: Examines how we come to understand ourselves as individuals as well as members of families, communities, and societiess.

Human Rights and Social Movements: Considers different conceptions of progressive reform and the complicated efforst intended to make the world a better place to live.

Law and Governance: Explores the laws and policies that constitute government and frame every aspect of human relations in different times and places.

Medicine, Science, and Technology: Investigates medical practices and the medical profession, scientific ideas, and new technologies.

War, Military and Society: Considers changes in war, the military, and militarization as well as their impact on soldiers and civilians.

Women, Gender & Sexuality: Explores history from a perspective of women's lives to reveal new elements about historical issues and events as well as the lives of men as well as women.
