Gateway Seminar: We All Want to Change the World: Writing the History of Good Intentions
HISTORY 173S
Introduces students to skills of critical research and historiography with an emphasis on writing and research design. Students devise a research project to investigate either an international or transnational historical episode that sought to address a major problem but led to unintended consequences. Examples might include an immigration policy, a military campaign, a humanitarian aid program, or an economic development project. We will spend first few weeks discussing secondary works of similar topics. Students will choose research topic in consultation with instructor. Instructor: Olcott
