Geopolitics and Culture: Islamic States from the Ottomans to ISIS


Geopolitical, comparative study of "Islamic states" and majority Muslim nations/polities of the greater Middle East including the Ottomans, Bosnia, Egypt, Algeria, Chechnya, Iran, Afghanistan and ISIS. All of these polities have experienced profound contestation between Islamic and secular state traditions and have recent histories of cultural and ethnic conflict and political violence.
