This course teaches students historical skills at the highest levels. An excellent preparation for History majors, it is also aimed at any student who wants to learn how to do serious, team-based research. Students will work with Duke's archival collections at Rubenstein Library on team-based research projects. Rather than focusing on a particular historical subject, this course emphasizes the skills and methods of the historian: close reading, project management, and archival exploration. Students will also be introduced to intellectual and technological tools that might include database construction, citation management, or web design.
