The seminar examines the complex interplay between trajectories of modern capitalism since the early twentieth century and developments within Western historiography, social theory, and feminism from the vantage point of Western Marxism. The larger portion of the seminar is devoted to the Marxist critique of the neoliberal remaking of modern capitalism and Western academies' encounter with various late-twentieth century isms (poststructuralism, postmodernism, etc.) at the time of this remaking. Here into the fucus come the fate of social sciences' core categories of analysis and the kind of scholarship and politics these intellectual metamorphoses have been contributing to.
