“Wanderers of Love: Reconstructing Musical History in the Twentieth-Century Caribbean”

Our presenter will be Matthew Smith, Chair of the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of the West Indies-Mona, and author of two major books on Caribbean history, Red and Black in Haiti: Radicalism, Conflict and Political Change, 1934-1957 (University of North Carolina Press, 2009) and Liberty, Equality, Exile: Haiti and Jamaica After Emancipation (University of North Carolina Press, 2014). He will be presenting an article that is part of a new book project on the history of music in the Caribbean, which he will be working on this year as a fellow at the National Humanities Center.
