12 Month Funding Requirements

Duke University will provide for guaranteed 12 month funding by building on the existing mechanisms for summer funding. Beginning in fall 2022, History graduate students in years 3 to 5 are therefore required to seek summer fellowships from the Graduate School in order to receive year-long funding. Specifically, they will need to apply for the Graduate School's regular Summer Research Fellowship for Third Year Students and Beyond, and, if applicable, the Graduate School's Summer Research Fellowships for Research on Racism and Systematic Inequalities and for Research on Women and Girls of Color, and accept them if awarded. Any student who applied for but did not receive one of these summer research fellowships will be guaranteed full summer funding through another source. The DGS may waive the application requirement upon special request if a student has already secured adequate external funding commensurate with the guaranteed funding amount for the summer.
