Duke History Union

The Duke History Union exists to connect students and faculty with speakers, courses, and events of interest to history majors at Duke University. The union also hopes to foster a feeling of community among students and faculty, and increasing the visibility of the history department's activities. Previous activities include movie discussion nights, study breaks, and registration mixers. For more information contact the History Union president.

Phi Alpha Theta – History Honor Society

Duke Chapter Established: Spring 2003

A professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways. Phi Alpha Theta connects students to fellow members across the United States and makes students eligible for scholarship and book prizes. Chapter Advisor: Professor Barry Gaspar.

Membership Requirements

  • Complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (4 courses) in History with a 3.1 GPA or better
  • Carry an overall GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Rank in the top 35% of your class
  • Membership is NOT limited to History Majors
