How has being a History graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?
"I believe you put yourself in front of the best minds and engage. For that was Ron Witt and Thomas Robisheaux at Duke. The rest is, as they say, history. These two, and their colleagues, taught to think, write and advocate for the causes worth fighting for."
What advice would you give students in Duke's History programs?
"You will be successful. Don't think about your careers. This is your one beautiful phase of life in which to luxuriate and concentrate what you are learning, not what it might get you. Be a sponge, absorbing everything you can, before you get nickel and dimed to death with minutiae for the rest of your lives. Duke History professors are stellar. Get yourselves in front of them."
