2016 Major: History and Economics
"European History had always been a passion of mine given my Irish heritage and citizenship, and I wanted to further pursue the field at Duke. In many ways, History was the opposite of Economics — I never had to open Excel or Stata but instead had to read hundreds of pages of text. However, during my classes I received numerous opportunities to research, synthesize ideas, and present my findings to my classmates. These skills are great skills to learn before entering the professional world, where reading scholarly articles and coming to conclusions is a common ask. I think Economics and History were a great combination to learn both quantitative and qualitative skills while in undergrad."
