2004 Major: History
"Duke is a brand, and your Duke degree gives you cache within that brand. In my career, I've never worked in a job (or even a field) that you would associate with someone who has a history degree. But at Duke, I learned how to effectively communicate, apply critical thinking, and open myself to new ideas and perspectives. All of these skills have been vital in my career, as I assume they would be for ANY person in ANY job. Duke didn't teach me to be a history teacher or an accountant or a business executive - it taught me to be a well-spoken, well-read, well-rounded adult."
"Take advantage of the classes that are listed across multiple disciplines. These classes will often challenge you beyond the typical HIS lecture and force you to think outside the box. Also - say YES. My biggest regret is not going abroad while at Duke. Never be afraid of new opportunities and adventures."
