How has being a History graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"Other than stimulating my curiosity about our historical roots, being a History graduate has placed a lens over my eyes through which I see issues differently. It taught me better what question to ask and in what way. I can more easily spot overarching trends--which is incredibly important in supporting businesses or providing legal advice to clients."

What advice would you give students in Duke's History programs?

"Being a history student does not mean you have to become a history professor or a lawyer (although those are great, too!). Leverage History Department alumni or alumni from the broader Duke community. Don't ask what you can do with a History degree, ask how you can do what you want to with a History degree. You'll be incredibly surprised at how far the History Department can take you and in how many different directions."
