Political Culture in Africa

This course examines the history of political institutions in Africa. Beginning with pre-colonial political formations in a variety of African contexts, ranging from small-scale societies to large multi-ethnic states, it then examine the question of how European colonialism impacted existing African political culture and introduced or transformed institutions of governance, before moving to consider the political history of post-colonial Africa.
