Third Book Prize for Fahad Bishara

Fahad Bishara, former PhD student in the department of history, has now won three book prizes for A Sea of Debt: Law and Economic Life in the Western Indian Ocean, 1780-1950  (Cambridge, 2017), which is a revised version of his Duke PhD dissertation.  The prizes, none of which were restricted to first-book authors, are:

the James Willard Hurst prize from the Law & Society Association;

the Bentley Book Prize from the World History Association; and, just this past weekend,

the Stein Book Prize from the American Society for Legal History.

This is an extraordinary accomplishment for any emerging scholar.  Fahad is assistant professor of history at UVA.
